BIRKENSTOCK uses high-quality leathers, carefully selected textiles, and synthetic or blended fabrics to manufacture its sandals and shoes. All materials are manufactured responsibly and are continually tested for skin compatibility.

LEATHER

Leather is one of the most durable natural materials used in traditional shoemaking. BIRKENSTOCK uses high-quality, thick, unsplit leather.

SUEDE LEATHER

Suede leather is a suede with a rough, sanded surface. This is the inner side of the leather after splitting. Suede leather has a soft, velvety surface that feels pleasant against the skin. It is particularly durable and has good moisture absorption.

FULL GRAIN LEATHER

We use natural, high-quality full-grain leather. This is usually smooth, most often tumbled. This type of leather guarantees extreme comfort and offers many benefits: breathability, insulation, fit to the shape of the foot, and durability.


OILED LEATHER

Oiled leather is one of our favorite leathers. Its oiled and waxed surface creates exceptional color effects and a beautiful patina.

NUBUCK LEATHER

Nubuck leather is made from high-quality leather. It is obtained by gently sanding the grain side. Soft and velvety, nubuck leather is a refined type of leather that develops a beautiful patina over time.
